Monthly Mastery #15 03/2023
Purpose:
The Monthly Mastery studies are meant to sharpen your fundamentals.
Regardless of the medium you choose to complete the study, it will hone your skills in values, forms and your understanding of light.
Simple shapes helps develop precision and accuracy.
Directions:
Study the reference, identify the light source and direction.
Identify the value changes on each surface.
Label the values 0 through 2. Let 0 represent the darkest shadow value and 2 represent the lightest shadow value.
Create your own lineart in any way that best suits you.
In your chosen medium, establish what tones you will use to represent each of your values [0, 1, 2].
Fill in the shapes with your corresponding value palette and colors.
Match the light colors to your best ability.
Aim for full coverage, no canvas or paper showing through your layers.
Create all gradients and form shadows. This means your non color shadows with blend into your light colors.
Do not create any texture or details. Only clean solid shapes. Focus on crisp edges and good lines.
